The Wardrobe Coffee Shop
A trip back in time is probably the best way to describe this little gem and it reminds me of an old style Parisian café bar that you’d only find if you went searching for hidden treasure in the back streets of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, a famous quarter in Paris famed for this style of bar.
It couldn’t be more French if you had a handle bar moustached gentleman, sitting on a basket fronted bicycle, with onions around his shoulder playing an accordion. It’s totally unique and couldn’t be confused with any other café nearby.
There are plenty to choose from in the Pontcanna area but none that has this individuality that makes it my number one place to sit and enjoy perfect coffee and a delicious cake to accompany it.
My excuse when we visit the antiques market is to take our little dachshund away from the hustle and bustle outside, in the pretence I’m doing it for ‘Frankie’, but really it’s for me and the pleasure of sitting inside, amongst the collection of objet d'art that surrounds the room which is very settling.
This is light years away from the ‘fast food style’ coffee shops of the High St, which also extends outside for ample seating and surrounds the small but very busy counter. The staff are always pleasant and add to what is very individual and charming.
Well worth a visit and the toasties are something else…try it.
